At StoneWind we don't just think out of the box

We Live in the ROUND

If you have never seen or been in a Yurt, you are in for a pleasant surprise and a new energetic experience. Each of our spacious Yurt Cabins is built on its own private deck with panoramic views of the Boston Mountains and the Ozark National Forest. StoneWind's delightful Yurts provide a perfect place to learn and grow, to rest, rejuvenate, and heal surrounded by the beauty and energies of nature.

The Yurts are fully furnished for long or short terms stays with full kitchens, baths, washers and dryers, custom queen or full beds, central air and heat, romantic gas log stoves, skylights, CD, DVD and video players. Each Yurt Cabin has 700sf of living space built on its own private 40' x 40' deck with tables overlooking the mountains for a leisurely breakfast or peaceful sunset dinner. Our four Deluxe Yurts have hot tubs on the decks where you can basque in warm water under the inky blanket of night with only moon and starlight above--the way it used to be before light pollution.

You can enjoy yurt living year round and experience the beauty of the wildnerness in all its seasons Our fully furnished kitchens let you dine in with meals on your private deck--or do carry out conveniently.from the lush green of spring and summer to the radiant colors of autumn, to the peaceful quiet of winter. If you are an early riser, watch breathtaking sunrises over the mountains and catch the wild turkey and deer on their morning forage. If you are an astronomy buff you can sit on your deck and gaze in wonder at the constellations spread against the blackness of space. If you are a night owl, you can listen to other owls hooting on the night wind and to the sounds of coyote, deer, turkey, and cattle that carry on the mountain wind. You will not forget nights at StoneWind.

Living the "Unplugged" Life on StoneWind's mountain

Each Yurt is specifically designed to support the teaching and healing mission of StoneWind Institute, which means the usual noisy, disruptive and interruptive devices are simply not here or no longer allowed to be noisy and disruptive. For instance, the phones in the yurts do not receive incoming calls, although you can call out. All major cell phones work well on the mountain--but we encourage you to turn your cell phone off and put it in a drawer while you are here. You will find radios, CD players, and new televisions with DVDs and VCRs in each Yurt, and a rich lending library of audio/visual materials related to Institute programs--but there are no connections to cable or network TV. Our signature tees say it all: "Take back your life. Turn off the TV." For those who find cold turkey too painful, the library also has a collection of good movies, and NPR comes in loud and clear for the hopeless news addict.

"Unplugged," Yes. "Unconnected," No. Each yurt has wireless internet (Hi-speed satellite), which means with a WIFI Laptop you can surf the Net anytime. If you are not WIFI-Lap equipped or don't want to lug it, you can pick up email at one of the computers in the main office or from the computer in the North Lodge training area.

Bottom line: there are important lessons to be learned about ourselves, each other, healing, Nature, the world, but those lessons can only be learned in the silence of the individual heart. Next to clean water, silence is the most precious and the most scarce commodity in our world. It is the Gold Standard at StoneWind. Our mountain shares its beauty, its energies, its stones, its messges of love with us, but we must be able to listen with the quiet attention lost everywhere else beneath the unceasing din of our technological world.

At StoneWind, we listen.
